Enhancement of Lumwana Mine Apiculture Programme

HYEL Conducted a feasibility study of the LMC Apiculture Programme. The process involved data collection and comprehensive analysis, as well as the preparation of a feasibility study report for managing a viable and sustainable Apiculture Enterprise in Kalumbila District. The objective of the assignment was to establish a beekeeping enterprise involving Small Holder Farmers in Kalumbila District that they could use to enhance their livelihoods as well as diversify revenue sources.

The project was supported by Prospero Zambia and LMC.HYEL conducted a feasibility study on the LMC Apiculture Programme to determine its viability and sustainability. The process involved data collection, comprehensive analysis, and the preparation of a feasibility study report aimed at establishing a beekeeping enterprise that would involve smallholder farmers in Kalumbila District. The objective of the project was to enhance the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the area and diversify their sources of revenue through beekeeping.

The study was conducted with the support of Prospero Zambia and LMC. The findings of the study were used to develop a comprehensive plan for managing a viable and sustainable apiculture enterprise in Kalumbila District. This included identifying the best beekeeping practices, analyzing market opportunities, identifying potential buyers, and developing a training program for the smallholder farmers involved.

Through the implementation of the plan, the beekeeping enterprise is expected to provide smallholder farmers in Kalumbila District with a reliable source of income and support their livelihoods. The project also has the potential to contribute to the local economy by creating employment opportunities and promoting the production of high-quality honey.

The study provided valuable insights into the viability and sustainability of the apiculture enterprise, which will ensure that the project is successful in enhancing the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Kalumbila District.
